 Alison Lowell - oboe

Active in contemporary music, Alison has performed with the Lucerne Festival Academy with conductor Pierre Boulez, the Ensemble Modern Festival Akademie, the June in Buffalo Contemporary Music Festival, the Monday Evening Concert Series, and as part of the North American premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s opera “Proserpina” with the Spoleto USA Festival. As co-artistic director of the chamber ensemble Out of Context, she presents new works across the country and recently received funding from "Meet the Composer" MetLife Creative Connections for a tour of western NY.  Alison is the recipient of an "Investing in Artists" grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation for an extended range oboe and believes strongly in promoting music and projects that feature this instrument (www.loboeproject.blogspot.com). A frequent performer on period instruments, Alison has been a guest artist with ensembles such as the Bach Collegium San Diego, Harmonia Baroque, Conspirare, and the Rochester Early Music Festival. Her principal teachers include Richard Killmer, Allan Vogel and David Weiss and holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Southern California. www.alisonlowell.com
