Maciej Flis - bassoon


Polish-born Maciej Flis currently lives in Los Angeles. He holds a Masters degree from the Bacewiczes Academy of Music in Lodz; Poland, an Artist Diploma from the University of Southern California (recipient of Flossie Meline Oliver Pieper Music Scholarship),  and a Masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts (recipient of Lovelace Music Scholarship). He has studied with many wonderful teachers such as Stephen Maxym, Julie Feves, Judith Farmer and Krzysztof Kaminski. Maciej Flis performed with the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra in Lodz and took part in numerous music events and festivals in Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Mexico and the United States. He also performed four seasons with the American Youth Symphony as co-principal. Maciej is an active performer and teacher in the Los Angeles area, teaching bassoon and chamber groups at the Masters College.  He has performed with such great artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Burt Bacharach, Yundi Li, John Waltz, Yefim Bronfman, under such outstanding conductors as Kent Nagano, Carl St.  Clair, John Williams, Anshel Brusilow, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Larry Livingston and Charles Fox.  Several of his performances have been featured on the Los Angeles classical radio stations KMozart and KUSC. Maciej will be a featured soloist with Orange County Symphony in the 2010/2011 concert season on The "Five Sacred Trees" Concerto for bassoon and Orchestra written by John Williams. Also, in 2011 Maciej will be part of the Orange County Wind Symphony inaugural tour to Carnegie Hall, New York. Maciej's passions include photography and aviation.
