“Your music, your sound – it’s your friend for life. You can express how you feel, send yourself into the larger world. You will always have that voice. That’s a pretty powerful thing.”
—Yo-Yo Ma speaking with a 12-year-old cellist
Fact: music takes a role in the life of every human being. The only question is in what way, and how profoundly? Our goal is to excite and empower people young and old in their quest to find a role for music in their lives.
Midnight works with individuals and groups of musicians in a variety of settings, from one-time masterclasses to longitudinal residencies with classrooms, chamber groups, and ensembles. They bring their artistry to shelters, churches, community centers, nursing homes, and a broad range of public schools—from those that have strong music programs, to schools with no arts budget whatsoever.
Midnight offers a variety of educational demonstrations engineered for the young minds of the 21st century. These are geared toward a variety of ages with topics ranging from orchestration, wind instruments, film and television music, melody, and world music.
We believe that our most effective education and outreach involves a partnership with our hosts or sponsors. We welcome collaboration and encourage you to contact us with your ideas and visions.
I hear, I forget.
I see, I remember.
I do, I understand.
